Itinerary

On arrival in Windhoek, you will be met by a Supertime representative and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day may be spent at leisure. This evening you will meet your tour guide and the rest of the group for your pre-departure meeting.

Overnight: Klein Windhoek Guesthouse or similar on Bed and Breakfast

Leaving the city life of Windhoek, we make our way to Okonjima Nature Reserve housing the AfriCat Welfare Centre in Okahanja. This evening we get the first experience of this conservation project by partaking on either a leopard tracking or on an endangered species sunset game drive offered by the Reserve. There are more than 40 mammal species within the Okonjima Nature Reserve, both large and small as well as a good representation of the typical flora. At the discretion of your reserve guide, there may be the chance to view some of these animals, large or small. The following morning we will visit the AfriCat Foundation Carnivore Care and Information Centre, a non-profit organisation set up to assist in the conservation of threatened, wild carnivores of Namibia in their natural habitat. Visitors will be able to actively observe part of this program and learn more about these amazing and beautiful animals. The AfriCat Carnivore Care activity is where an Okonjima guide will take you to the AfriCat Information and Carnivore Care Centre, to observe and understand the work we aspire to do. The reasons why we do it, the story of how it started the complicated process of rehabilitation and currently why the Okonjima Nature Reserve is no longer a suitable release site for rehabilitated cheetahs. Guests will be taken to the welfare enclosures which vary in size according to the particular group of cheetahs (min 1 ha per carnivore). Our guide will answer all questions, explain in detail why each cheetah is here and position the vehicle for that special photograph.

Overnight: Plain Camp Gardens or similar on Lunch, Dinner, Bed and Breakfast.

Today mid morning, we head off to Etosha National Park. We fill the next 2 days with game drives in the hopes of spotting lion, leopard, elephant and rhino as well as cheetah, giraffe, zebra and the numerous different types of antelope the park has to offer. Etosha Game Park was declared a National Park in 1907 and it is home to approximately 114 mammal species, 340 bird species, 110 reptile species, 16 amphibian species and, surprisingly, one species of fish.

Overnight: Etosha Safari Camp or similar on Lunch, Dinner, Bed and Breakfast.

We leave the wild animals of Etosha behind and move onto the spectacular scenery of Damaraland. In the heart of this typical Namibian environment, we visit the Twyfelfontein Bushman Rock engravings and the Petrified Forest. Our final destination for the day will be Omaruru, a village town situated just at the end of the Erongo Mountains.

Overnight: Omaruru Guesthouse or similar on Dinner, Bed and Breakfast

From Omaruru we head towards the coast to visit Cape Cross – the largest breeding place of the Cape Fur Seals. Leaving Cape Cross Seal, we follow the barren Skeleton coast to into the charming town of Swakopmund, an oasis set between the expanse of the desert and the vastness of the Atlantic Ocean. The afternoon is spent at leisure to partake in optional activities or alternatively just soak up the atmosphere of this little quaint German town and enjoy its beauty and beaches.

Overnight: Alte Brucke Resort or similar on Bed and Breakfast

The day is spent driving through the Namib Naukluft National Park on our way to Sossusvlei. The Namib-Naukluft Desert is an ancient land with an ageless spirit. It is home to some of the rarest plant and animal species in the world and sightings of this flora and fauna on a Namibian safari are a must. The animals of this harsh landscape include the Oryx, springbok and Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra.

Overnight: Agama Lodge or similar on Bed and Breakfast

The next morning we need to wake up early to visit the world’s highest sand dunes at Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. These dunes, which can reach heights of over 300m, are absolutely spectacular and provide for a fantastic photo opportunity. With luck, there may even be water in the vlei (lake). We also stop to view the Sesriem Canyon, which was carved millions of years ago by the Tsauchab River.

Overnight: Agama Lodge or similar on Bed and Breakfast

Today is a long driving day. We travel south to our accommodation which is situated close to the Fish River Canyon, the second largest canyon on earth. Visit Ais-Ais hot springs and later in the evening we take in another perfect African sunset with the magnificent views and scenery along the edge of the canyon.

Overnight: Canyon Roadhouse or similar on Bed and Breakfast

Leaving the gravel plains of the Fish River canyon behind, an early departure takes us back to Windhoek where we started our tour. The day carries with it one of our longest drives passing through small towns on the B1 main road, reminding us of the historical voortrekkers – the Boer farmers who moved along this route off the Cape colony in South Africa into Southwest Africa in the 18 century.
